RACP Congress 2017 is being held in Melbourne from Monday, 8 to Wednesday, 10 May 2017. With a new ‘shared interests’ focus we are now calling for abstracts to be submitted for oral and/or poster presentations.

The Division, Faculty and Chapter Presidents and the Congress Organising Committee (COC) are requesting papers addressing the specific topics which will be covered in the shared interest program. Topics include; obesity, disability, cognitive bias, regenerative therapy, medicinal cannabis, consumer centred care and ethics.

The new format allows for presentations to be delivered outside the traditional scientific format.Presenters are required to deliver a substantial presentation that runs for at least 30-40 minutes.

Please ensure you follow the abstract submission guidelines and submit your abstract via our online system.

 

Guidelines

Please note: a maximum of three (3) abstracts can be submitted per unique email address. If you wish to submit more than three (3) abstracts, you will need to use a different email address.

Ramazzini Prize: Closes Sunday, 29 January 2017
Oral Abstract Submissions: Closes Sunday, 5 February 2017
Poster Presentations: Closes Sunday, 12 March 2017

 

Abstract Guidelines

Abstract title

Should be short and informative and contain major keywords in 12 point Times New Roman, UPPERCASE, bold, and justified.


Author's names

Should be formatted with the author's family name and then first initial with the presenting author in bold. Superscript numbers must be used to indicate the author's institution.

See example below:

Author's organisations/institutions affiliations

Please include the city, state and country (in this order) of the organisations/institutions and appropriate superscript numbers. Do not include degrees or professional titles (e.g. Dr, Professor etc.)

Abstract Text

Must be in 10 point Times New Roman, single-spaced and right justified. Abstracts are to be a maximum of 500 words, including references.


Abstract should address:

1. Background/Introduction

Include one or two sentences to introduce the broad topic area. Please briefly outline its relevance and importance.


2. Methods

Include information on participants (or case history), ascertainment, and research methods (if applicable).


3. Results/Outcomes

Provide a description of the main findings and outcomes. Submitted abstracts must include actual results; reference to inferred results that were unavailable at the time of submission is not acceptable, however, data from additional analyses after abstract submission is allowed. This should include relevant literature review.


4. Conclusion(s)

Provide statements of interpretation and implication findings, referencing previous literature.


4. References

Two to five key references are to be included.


Use standard abbreviations only within the body of the abstract. When using abbreviations spell out the name in full at the first mention and follow with the abbreviation in parenthesis. Abbreviations may be used in the title, provided the name in full is outlined in the body of the abstract. Capitalise the first letter of trade names.

Care should be taken to ensure high quality English expression and grammar.



Abstract Terms & Conditions (subject to change)

By submitting an abstract to The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), each author listed in the abstract confirms and agrees that he or she:


  • agrees with the content of the abstract and has given permission to be listed as an author / presenter

  • has checked the accuracy of the information and referencing within the abstract

  • has been granted all appropriate consents and approvals to the use of information in it from any third party

  • has complied with all legislation, including that relating to the privacy of any person or patient

  • has not previously published the abstract

  • allows the RACP to publish the abstract in College documents and on the College website, and grants the RACP a royalty free, non-exclusive perpetual licence to use, reproduce and publish all materials associated with the abstract and any subsequent submission, presentation or slides associated with the abstract, and to modify and adapt them (but only to the extent that it is necessary for such use and publication).

  • allows the RACP to live stream and/or record any associated presentation and make a recording of it available on the College website

  • consents that the RACP may publish the personal details of the authors including their email addresses, as listed in the abstract

  • allows the RACP to publish all photographs taken which relate to it

  • will assist in media activity including interviews, as reasonably requested by the RACP.

  • agrees that all the information provided is correct before submitting.
